HOLIDAYS...CAME AND WENT...NOW IT'S TIME TO CATCH UP THE BLOG

We hope all of you had a happy, healthy and relaxing Holiday season.

We at Static Salon had a very eventful December and had so much fun getting to spend so much time with each of our clients and hear about all of there Holiday plans. We continue to feel blessed to have each of our clients in our lives and know that Static Salon has the best clients/friends ever!

Here is a little recap on our December festivities...

Lets Start with our MAMA event, "Less Mall, More MELROSE"

(now, lets be honest...all of our events include food, but, is there really anything better than hair and food? We don't think so)
"Less Mall, MORE MELROSE" event turned out to be a great event for all of Melrose. In our salon, we had chances to win Static Salon gift certificates (Bianca, its a good thing you brought your awesome husband Dave along with you...he is a good guesser!) and we had cupcakes too.

Throughout Melrose there were many food trucks, which we at Static Salon indulged in. When Static Salon client, Tamera, left the salon, she was sucked into the crepe truck but the delicious smell. She had to buy one of each of the dessert crepes and then come back to the salon to share. It was a sight to behold...all 6 crepes out on trays in the middle of the styling floor with every stylist and every client in the salon at the time, with a fork in hand and going to town. We argued and joked over which ones were our favorites and were all ready to kiss Tamera for hooking us up with the yummiest thing around.

To celebrate the Holiday's, before Static Salon closed for a couple days, we had a Hot Chocolate Bar. Stylists, Clients and our Melrose friends had a fun time creating, what they believed, was the winning Hot Chocolate with plenty of delicious mix-ins.
Is there a better way to celebrate the December festivities than to sip on Hot Chocolate?

Of course there were many other things we did on a daily basis throughout December, most of which was spending quality time with most of our clients.

Again we are thankful for each and every one of you Static Lovers and Hope that 2011 is a successful year filled with Joy and Happiness!!!

On October 17, 2010 Static Salon and Friends joined 30,000 other people for a little walk around the streets of LA to raise money and fight against AIDS.

Along the way we saw others just as passionate as we were to be walking on this most incredible day. The energy that was created by 30,000 people of all ages was unlike anything that could possibly been imagined.

No one walking knew the where the other 30,000 walkers were from, what there background was, what kind of a house they lived in or how much money they made annually.

But we all, for one afternoon were connected by something that matter more than all that stuff. We were all out, walking in the rain for 6 miles, to fight for people that we may never meet or know. We were fighting for others to live a longer life, we were fighting for health, we were fighting for loved ones living with this disease and in honor of loved ones that have passed on. We were walking because we believed in something greater than ourselves. In one afternoon 30,000 Los Angelenos' hearts came together for one great cause and in the grand scheme of life...there is nothing more special or more moving than one giant group coming together in LOVE.

Along the way...we had fun too!

We joked around and connected with each other

We remembered how much we love each other

We totally bonded

We showed pride for our team

Along the way...a little piece of us changed. We became just a little bit better people.

THE HEART & SOUL

Team Static was was unbelievable with the amount of Heart and Soul and Passion that went into every step taken at the Los Angeles AIDS walk.
Before the walk actually started Team Static met up (well most of us...Alex and Roland met us at the start line) for a pre-walk "tailgating" (minus the cars) party. We had some muffins and got each other energized about the walk.

Tony was an unbelievable support to team Static and probably one of our biggest Cheerleaders. So many of Tony's Clients and Friends Joined us for the Event.

Ms. Julie...This young lady is one amazing person. Julie raised $1075.00 for the AIDS walk. She has true passion for this cause and has a heart of GOLD! We love you Julie, thanks for being such a HUGE example to everyone that you come in contact with. We love that you are a Static Client and Friend!

Sandra...One of Static's biggest fans! Sandra is a HUGE support to Static in all that they do, So, it was no surprise when Sandra Signed up to walk with team Static. Thanks Sandra, We love you.

Callie and Swan...We were all super excited when Callie signed up to walk with team Static and when she said she was going to also bring along her husband Swan. They were super fun to walk with. After all this time of Callie being a Static client it was fun to meet her husband.

Joe, Tina and Bri...the Static Salon Owners all walked as well.
House...One of Tony's good friends walked team Static. He was a fun loving guy with a ton of heart and a great addition to our team.
Roland...Our parking guy!!! Who can say that they love the parking guy??? Static Salon can! We love that Roland decided to walk with us. It was fun to see him out of his uniform.
Alex...A Static Salon Stylist. Alex is always fun to be around. Alex has a ton of passion and love for the AIDS walk and has always been a big supporter of this event.

One reason why we love Alex is because he is ALWAYS trying new things.
Alex is already an amazing hair designer and has such a creative and artistic eye for all things beautiful. He recently has become fascinated with make-up. Alex has spent tons of money buying a growing his HUGE make-up kit and spent a million hours reading, watching videos, getting instruction from other make-up artists and practicing make-up application on anyone who he can get his hands on.
Recently he hooked up with a photographer and a model and did a complete photo shoot...just for fun!!
The pictures came out beautiful. It was the models first time in front of the camera and Alex did an amazing job on the hair and the MAKE-UP!!!

THE BRAZILIAN BLOWOUT DOES IT AGAIN...

For as long as Bri has known Lindsay, she has always had such beautiful hair, its full and she can do it curly and straight. But now that she lives in Texas with her husband and cute baby girl she is having more trouble with all the frizz because of the heat and humidity in Texas. Plus, being a new mom makes it difficult to dedicate so much time to doing her hair everyday. So, on her last visit to California Bri told Lindsay to come into Static and get the Brazilian Blowout done, to help cut out the Frizz and save time on day to day styling.

She is officially IN LOVE!!!

Ms. Julie is a FUN one! Each time she comes into the salon she gets something totally different. This is her new "symmetrical" haircut. I love the color too! She sure is sassy!

Mr. Nicholas...He is our jet setter! This one is always off to Paris or off to Proge. But when he is in the states he graces us with his presence and gets his locks maintained with Tony.

We all at Static love the both of you (Julie and Nicholas). We have SO much fun every time either of you are in the salon.

Midsummer Night on Melrose

It all started with a Balloon...

It was a warm summer night and all along Melrose HUGE red balloons filled the night sky. Each balloon represented a store on Melrose joining forces to create an evening of friendship and fun. Within each red balloon adorned store were visions of smiling faces enjoying a good deal or a BBQ or champagne. In good ol' Static fashion, we hosted what was dubbed, "COCKTAILS AND CUPCAKES" (check out the next blog for all the cupcake pictures)

In our infamous courtyard, Flouvog Shoes hosted an array of activities including the ever so fun, hosted by Static Salon, guess the amount of perm rods, game. We got many many guesses and our winner was only 30 perm rods off. (we can continue the fun...how many perm rods do you think there are???)

And...last but certainly NOT least. Here are just a few of the Static Lovers. We are a little upset because we did have many more lovers show there pride, but we all got caught up in the fun that we forgot to keep taking pictures. But to all you out there that came to play with us that night, know that we love you and we has so so so so so much fun with you!!!

All in all, the Midsummer Night on Melrose was a hit for Static Salon! Thank you again to all our fans, to the Static Stylists and to MAMA and all the businesses along Melrose for making this night so much fun!!!

There were so many people taking pictures of our fun cupcakes that they really deserved their own post.
We made these little guys for the Midsummer Night on Melrose event. We had fun making them and even more fun eating them. Tina and Joe made the little StaticSalon signs and Bri...and her mom (must give credit to the mom) made the cupcakes!

WEDDING BLISS

We love weddings at Static Salon!
Eve (the bride) brought in her entire bridal party to the salon to get their hair and make-up for the day of the wedding. We had so much fun that we forgot to get the pictures of the entire party. We remembered right before the bride walked out the door.
The entire party looked beautiful but as always the Bride was just a wonderfully beautiful and perfect in every way.

If you look you can also see one of Eve's bridesmaids with her hair and make-up done...what a good bridesmaid taking pictures of the bride.

Eve's hair was done by Alex and Make-up was done by Bri. (Again, I wish we took more pictures because Greg also was part of the Design Team for this wedding and he did formal styles for some of the wedding party)

A couple of months ago I was feeling very thankful for our Salon, the beauty of it, the place where we spend day after day doing what we love.
Today, the salon was on fire. Everyone was juggling multiple guests and we were having a blast. This is our CUTE, CUTE Kristian. We LOVE her!!! She has been a friend of Static for awhile now and yep, you guessed it, she is one of those clients that is always changing it up. Professionally Kristian is a Nanny for this very cool family and she absolutely loves what she does. What makes her job even better is that we CAN change her hair all the time.

Recently Kristian's boyfriend talked her into going on a couple casting calls for modeling jobs...Just for fun...well, needless to say that the "just for fun" has become "something huge"!!! Kristian has been called back on many jobs and is the face of some new boutiques as well.
We at Static Salon are VERY proud of Kristian.

The best part about being a hair stylist is that we get to be a part of our clients lives. We get to see them evolve through life and we are able to make them feel more beautiful about themselves. Every 6 months at the beginning of LA Fashion Mart, the creators of all the glitz and glamor get together for one VERY special evening. Fashion Designers are (by VERY special invite only) asked to come to this gathering. They are asked to wear one of there collection pieces as well as bring a model or a "muse", as they put it, to accompany them, also wearing a collection piece.
Lauren Elaine was invited to this event and asked STATIC SALON to help her and her muse get ready to walk the red carpet.
We had so much fun working with Lauren again. If you will all recall STATIC SALON helped her with a fashion show to launch her headband line. (check out older posts to see pictures from that event)

I wish I had a picture of Cynthia when she first walked into Static Salon, but, I will attempt to describe it. Cynthia had NEVER colored her hair and her hair was super long, almost to her waist long. Our first experience with Cynthia was an experience filled with color. She was so excited, and to be honest, so was I. It is absolutely exhilarating to color someone for the very first time.
The next time that Cynthia came into Static Salon, she saw a very A-line and edgy bobb in her future, and I was just the person she wanted to share that "first" with. Before Cynthia came into Static for her new cut, she thought she would chop off the bulk of her length, herself, to practice having kinda short hair. (she figured, if she couldn't live with this length, she could come in and have me just clean it up for her...and let it grow out again) As you can guess Cynthia's kitchen Cut was not short enough for her...so, off to Static she went.

Jeffrey Lake has been a part of the Static Team for awhile, and we have yet to show case him in the famous Static Blog. This was not because we don't LOVE Jeffrey, but the truth is that this guy has done SO many AMAZING things in his career, that it has been hard to narrow his achieve into a little blog post.

Fifteen years now into his career, Jeffrey keeps contributing excitement to the world of hair design, education and the professional hair care industry with such a high level of motivation and passion. With his ability to forecast future trends, Jeffrey is always on top of what is to come of hair design. As a platform artist he is entertaining with his charming personality and motivational speaking. For ten years Jeffrey has been performing and teaching at major hair shows, seminars and salons throughout the Caribbean, Central America, Mexico and the United States. Jeffrey has also had many of his work showcased into magazines and publications all over the world.

Alex Tan does it again...
But, this time he did it solo. Alex was invited to be one of the hairstylists for a lingerie fashion show that was held down town (Los Angeles). These were just a couple of his styles. The theme was Angels and Devils. As you can see Alex loves styling the crazy curls and racy styles that a devil is bound to sport.

Alex, we are ALL very proud of you and all that you are doing! You are an amazing stylist and we always LOVE seeing what you are going to do next! Thanks for sharing your creativity and passion with us.

Although we missed him in the salon for a couple of days, Tony was recently invited to be the lead hairstylist for a new movie CLASS, which just finished filming.

CLASS will hopefully be in theaters sometime in October 2010.

For this show we were absolutely blessed with beautiful models. They were all so lovely and we had so much fun getting them ready. The concept for Lauren Elaine's Launch party was not so traditional. Because she wanted it more like a PARTY the models didn't walk a runway. They acted more as live mannequins and interacted a ton with all the party guests. It was so much fun.

One of Alex's clients entered him into a competition, where the winners work got published in a Florida based Magazine. Keratin Complex Proves to be a CHAMP yet again!!!

This is Char...We LOVE Char!

When Char first came to Static Salon she told us that she didn't want color and only wanted to cut her hair and NOTHING else...well little did Char know that she was stepping into STATIC and about to sit in Jeffrey's chair and a transformation was about to take place.

Static Salon Does the Blvd....

So, in PURE West Hollywood tradition this year Static Salon Spent their Halloween up on the Blvd. (Santa Monica Blvd. that is) and although the 3 founders of Static had never experienced the Blvd on Halloween their trust was put in the hands of all the other West Hollywoodians around them. Also, in PURE Static Salon tradition, most staff members and many clients were recruited into joining the Static team in meeting up with the other 500,000 Halloween lovers on the Blvd.

Although we would have loved to take more pictures the excitement of Halloween combined with the many people rushing around left us forgetting to take more pictures...So, here are just a couple of the party people! (There were 14+ of us that went together)

Before the actual party we spent the day at the salon getting a bunch of clients ready for their Halloween parties as well as getting each other ready. Alex made Bri into a Geisha from hair to make-up...
Next year Static Salon will most likely have a reunion with the Blvd and plan on recruiting even more guests to join in the fun! Happy Halloween everyone!!!!

STATIC SALON OR FILM STUDIO...YOU BE THE JUDGE???

If you remember a few months ago, Static Salon was the host to ScissorBoy, an online instructional series for hairdressers that helps provide weekly episodes on all different hair dressing techniques. Three of these episodes were filmed at Static. At Last...one of the 3 episodes has been released.

Reverse Blending Technique Featuring Ivan Zoot
Clipper Guy is back in an action packed episode! If you cut hair in the professional beauty industry, 99% of the men's haircuts that you cut will be some sort of variation on the classic men's tapered cut. This cut takes 3 steps: back and sides are tapered, the top is layered and all blended together.
The blending is the hardest part of the cut, and Ivan shows you a "trick" technique called reverse blending, which eliminates the hardest part of the cut. If you get good at this, you can build business anywhere in America with solid haircutting skills.

STATIC SALON....WHAT A SIGHT!!!

The other morning I drove my usual way to the salon, got stuck in the usual traffic at the usual spots on the freeway and then turned off Melrose onto Gardner as I usually do, but when I pulled to the usually broken meter in front of the salon, I didn't have a usual feeling! The sun was shining and the birds were chirping as I got out of my car I looked at the salon and felt so grateful and so proud. Static is a beautiful, fun, quaint, sassy, exciting and life changing place. I am so proud to be a part of this salon!

So, I decided to do the unusual thing...me and the salon, well we had a photo shoot. In all her glory, here she is.
This is the salon window seat, where else can you lean back, cozy up with the pillows and sip on your wine or coffee and chat with other clients and stylists all the while taking in the sun and waiting for your color to process??? I love this seat, many good stories are shared right here on this seat!

The Color bar, where we mix you up some sweet Paul Mitchell cocktails for your locks!

The Wash House where we indulge your senses with a relaxing experience that melts your cares away!

The Front desk (which we tiled ourselves) where you will always be greeted with a smile and probably a hug too!

The Steamers to speed your processing time up although we know you like to stay and play for hours on end, we also know that you have to work and pick up kids and do all the other things that life has to offer...

The front entry with our fun bench from the show Monster Garage (thanks Larry for this find), this also happens to be the photo shoot wall, many a photographer has walked by and asked to use this wall as a backdrop for their master piece.

The Iggy Pop shrine! How can you walk into the salon and see Iggy and not smile...

Some of the stations where the Static Stylists perform their magic and change peoples lives!!! This is where self esteem is created!!

For all those of you who have been to Static Salon before, you know what I mean when I said earlier that Static was an amazing place to be and for those of you that have now been on my salon photo shoot adventure, you are starting to see what a magical place Static Salon truly is!

MEET GABBY

Gabby is one of our many Grove Guests (meaning she works at the Grove) This was Gabby's first time into the salon and when she called to make her appointment she mentioned that she wanted Green and Black hair. Right away we were totally excited! We matched Gabby up with Greg and magic happened....Gabby has naturally black hair and had never had another color besides black in her hair, so, when she wanted to go ALL out and get GREEN, we knew that it was going to be a process. Gabby stuck in there and at the end we were all totally excited about her transformation to FUN!!!!!

PLAYING WITH BROOKIE

We at Static Salon feel so blessed because we have such wonderful people around us all the time. Brooke and her boyfriend Kurt and their friend Scott, own ThinkTank (a graphic company located directly above us). We have become like family because we see each other everyday and are going through starting new businesses on Melrose at the same time. Every chance we get we steal Brooke to try fun things on her. Then of course we always make her pose for a picture as well. Thanks Brooke for being such a great sport...we love you!!!

So...Joe, Tina and Bri have been to every community meeting that you could possibly imagine, from Police Breakfasts, to Melrose Action, to Melrose Buisness Watch, to Neighborhood Block Captain Meetings. You can basically say that we have immursed ourselves in our community and have loved every minute of it. The Melrose Business Owners and Melrose Residence have truly become our family and we love walking down Melrose everyday and seeing all of our new friends. We couldn't ask for a better community to open up a new business in. So, when we were presented with a Certificate from the Mayor of Los Angeles for our "Dedication to the Melrose Community", we were in shock because we love being involved so much.

We have proudly framed our beloved Certificate and hung it right by the front door!!!

Static Gets Models Ready for a Pool Side Fashion Show

In this posting we have two exciting things to share that are happening at Static Salon. The first is that we are offering a very innovative treatment to relax (straighten) and de-frizz even colored hair. The treatment is called the Keratin Complex Treatment by Coppola.

LITTLE GIRL HUGE HEART

Meet Taylor!

Taylor is a little girl who has been waiting for a very very very long time to get her hair cut because she heard of Locks of Love and wanted to grow her hair out so that she could donate her beautiful hair to another child who is going through cancer and has no hair. Taylor's dad works by the salon and when the time was right, he along with Taylor's 2 brothers brought her into the salon for the BIG hair donating day!!!

ANDIS CLIPPER CO. & SCISSOR BOY COME TO STATIC SALON

Meet Ivan Zoot, Director of Marketing and Education for the Andis clipper company and the current title holder of 3 World Records in haircutting. I think that he should hold the title for "most energy" it is amazing how much energy Ivan had and it was totally contagious, we loved it.

Anyway, Ivan came along with the Scissor Boy crew to film 3 episodes of ScissorBoy.com for Andis. They did a traditional men's cut, a Mohawk and get this...a flat top.

Who in the world would ever model for a flat top...we tried every avenue possible to try and get a model...in the end Greg stepped up and took one for the team (WE LOVE YOU GREG)!!!

We also invited Future Professionals from Paul Mitchell the School, Sherman Oaks and The CAO Institute, a Paul Mitchell Partner School to come hang out with us for the day. They ROCKED and we had so so so much fun with them. We LOVE Paul Mitchell Future Professionals at Static

I think that this was the first time that the salon was actually "quite on set" is it really possible to have a salon be silent? But we had guests and people from the neighborhood coming in to snack on some goodies and hang with us for the day.

In all it was a GREAT day in the salon and it was so much fun to have a taping in the salon. We feel so honored that the Andis Clipper Company choose Static Salon to shoot their video. They are welcome anytime!!!

New Friends From Japan

So, a couple days ago this guy comes walking into the salon and asks, "Do you guys do crazy haircuts?" to which I replied, "Yeah totally!" He then followed up by asking me "Do you know what a number 1 is?" I laughed and assured him that we did, so we booked him for 45 min later with Jeremy.

Well little did we all know that we were going to have such a fun afternoon and meet 3 totally awesome people from Japan...David, Melissa and Mark!

So Jeremy did a SICK job on Davids cut (and proved to him that we do "crazy" haircuts and we know what a number one is...) and now we all want to go to Japan (tomorrow) and hang with these guys! The cool thing was that they were supposed to go to Mexico for the week but then the swine flu thing happened so they changed all their plans and wondered around the States, it was fate cause we just made 3 rad friends!!!

There was a HUGE fashion show at the Greendoor put on by our friends at Imperial Planet Clothing and Artine and we were on hand to do all of the hair and Make-up for the event. All of the models were totally cool and the venue was so sick!!! We had so much fun...just as we always do!

The Midnight Mission

The Midnight Mission is a place where dreams come true and where people are given a second chance at life. We at Static Salon have taken much joy in working closely with the Mission. We have been so blessed to have the opportunity to cut, color and style some of the families that are currently turning their lives around while living at the Mission.

We also teamed up with Think Tank Design and Imperial Planet Clothing to hold a Red Carpet Fashion Show/Cut-a-thon to benefit the Midnight Mission and had an absolute Blast, under the light show while eating some killer food and dancing to some insane tunes.
